PCs can run fine for about 4 years before needing upgrads, if you do it properly.

Most consoles run for about 4/5 years before a "true" upgrade. Like I dont count PlayStation to PSOne as a true upgrade, it was just a better package, just like the slimline PS2 was etc.

Although Sony have said that the PS2 architexture is now open to use form anyone. So places like India and Russia can try to make games on an older platform.

And then they can be upgraded easily and cheaply if you did it right first time round

Nah, just build a new one (most new stuff will be incompatible by then), though if you upgrade the graphics (usually compatible) and maybe the RAM you can get another 2 years out of it, at which point you upgrade proc+mobo, maybe RAM, keep the graphics.

Yeah I could... but if some game like Bioshock 2 came out and was completely awesome and I needed to upgrade, I would upgrade
Or if Team Fortress 3 came out in the next 20 years and needed upgrading I probably would... although I don't see how they could improve TF2 personally... all bugs have been fixed up, updates are happening regularly... all good

Valve have said they are not supporting the PS3 platform. This might mean that they won't make games for it in the future. It certainly means that there are no updates for Orange Box on PS3.

I don't think valve ever made OB for PS3, I think EA did the porting.
