I've seen the 512MB Ultras. They brought them out about 6 months ago. That's why I knew the 7 series would get 512MB versions.

Similarly, ATI released a 512MB X800XL a while back. I wonder how X1800XTPE (and/or X1850XTPE) will compare to 7800GTX 512...

from the benchmarks in the newest issue of CustomPC, the 7800GTX trashes the X1800XT in some games, and just beats it in others. First conclusion - 1-0 to nVidia!

If this is the 7800GTX 512MB vs. the standard X1800XT 512MB, then that's a poor comparison -- the X1800XT 512MB was made as the competitor for the 7800GTX 256MB, if you read the Anandtech article in "Next gen hardware" thread.

The 7800GTX 512MB was made as a competitor for the X1800XT 512 512MB! You're only complaining cos you have to face defeat. Anyway, it's a fairer comparison as it compares the actually technology, not just how much GDDR 3 they could bung on it!

I disagree, I don't think it was made as the competitor, I think it was made to escape the competition completely. You'll find hundreds of sites saying the same thing.

Hmm, OK, still, it's the only comparison to make - top of the range cards. It looks like nVidia has the fastest card now, and it's not an unfair comparison.

Looks like this card is extremely limited in supply now, with some stores even saying that it cannot be purchased.

Apparently memory is in tight supply? Or Nvidia are being silly, but I doubt that. I think they just can't get the materials to mass produce like they did.
Anyway.. the G71 is coming out soon, and the R580... These 2 seem like they will be *extremely* competitive. Both expected for a late Jan/early Feb launch.
Might get some news on Physx one day...

The same happened with teh X800XT, IIRC, they were in such short supply because they couldn't get the memory (different technology).
Oooh, More GPUs....

Yeah, so that will be the 8 series and X2 series? By the end of next year we'll have a nVidia 9 series! The ATI 9 series is only 3 years old (I think)!

Yeah, I remember the day when I had my Radeon 9800 Pro.. I thought it was the bees knees, because I never really run much software that would take advantage of it much (UT2003/4). EverQuest 2 was a slug though :| Apparently, Nvidia cards perform rubbish in EQ2, and there's a huuuuge article on the official SOE forums about it. It's funny, because it's an Nvidia title - the way it's meant to be played. I think 7800 sorted it though.

Same is true fo HL2 - ran much better on nVidia than ATI, though ATI never fixed that!

As in, the ATI cards outperformed the Nvidia rivals.

No, as in it had an ATI stamp, but nVidia beat it at the detail levels that count!

I'm afraid it's true! nVidia trashed them at high res!

HL2 is an ATI game. Fair and square. DominATIon! // Edit: High res sucks anyway, who ever plays beyond 1600x1200 ???

I play at 1600x1200, and nVidia is BETTER at that res!

I play at 1024x768 or 1280x1024, depends whether I want performance or clarity. High resolutions are pointless if it's just going to reduce the immersiveness by reducing the frame rate.
