This game is absolutely brilliant! It's so incredibly addictive and immersive. The graphics are alright (not the best out there, but there's not much to complain about), the sounds are incredible (especially when a jet whooshes straight past your face, or you can hear an enemy chopper in the distance)...
The squad based system is awesome. You can be either a squad member, squad leader and commander. You really feel like commands are being sent through the system properly... squad member requests for artillery at a certain position, the squad leader can then ask for this from the commander, then the commander can strike artillery... or the commander can ask a squad leader to move to a certain position, who then must either accept or deny the order (if he accepts, all members of the squad are ordered to the position by the squad leader). Basically, it's really well thought up. I don't think any other game does it so well.
It's awesome when you can get 64 players on a map actually team working!! A lot of the time, you do get people just pissing about, or not cooperating in the slightest (your team will usually lose then).
Weapons and vehicles sounds excellent. Players look good. C4 kills are helluva funny. Unlockable weapons are brill, especially the medic's weapon.
There is a persistent points system that lets you unlock bonus features (weapons and priority). Fantastic!!
I want to play it again now.

Yeah, this is a great game, I couldn't get on the account servers though, they really need to improve them. I may try again soon.
I love running up to a tank and covering it in C4 - BOOM! Has anyone ever done a successful defib kill?
The vehicles are great fun, though flying is hard.

There are apparently a lot of bugs with BF2... I haven't noticed many. There was a huge problem with a memory leak, and I think it still happens.. Try playing as Commander, zooming in to soldier level, then going back to the game.. It runs like a slide show.
Flying is easy peasy now. It's just a shame that it's just as easy for the enemy as well, loops and spins in jets won't get them off your tail.
Err, I don't like team killers either, and I don't like it when people won't give me a ride simply because I speak a different language.

Yay! I just bought a headset to use with this game. I was thinking that it could even replace my snazzy sound system I have at the moment (Harman Kardon Soundsticks II - extremely good quality 2.1 sound) ... This new Sennheiser headset I have bought has a 360 degree sound system (so it can sound like things are above, below, in front, behind, left, right, etc.) and a noise cancelling microphone, and super-comfy ear pads. Cost ?70. Bugger.

Wow, cool, sounds good (does it?). I will try to get my Battlefield 2 working this weekend (online play).

Nice one. We'll have to get together on there so that I can either pwn you like a n00b, or annoy you with my new headset !! It should arrive either tomorrow or the day after but I'll let you know what I think, or give a kind of "Battlefield 2 player's review of the Sennheiser PC160 gaming headset"

You'll probably own me, though I'm alright at CS:S.
Actually, I am thinking of starting some form of gaming clan, would you be interested?

I would indeed. Would it not be expensive? I know most gaming clans go all out on renting a 100 megabit connection super fast (by super fast they mean a Pentium, hahaha) server to host their games, at something like ?50/month, although I've never looked in to it.

Nothing, we just join other servers, just say we're together. I don't think a game server of our own would be neccessary (yet).

True. Anyway, got home today, and my headset should have been there. A note was left saying that it needed to be signed for, the buggers. So now I have to wake up at 5:30, in the morning!! Just so I can ped it out to a local town to pick up my parcel. It will be worth it, I hope. Imagine... All that and it didn't work. Shiz happens mind.. // Edit: I'll place more info on this headset in the hardware section when I receive the damn thing.

Got there at 7 this morning and received the goods, got back at 7:30 so had a bit of time to check out the audio quality. It's incredible. I heard a helicopter approaching me from behind, so had the extra chance to duck for cover before it fired its missiles. The microphone quality is also very good, no echoing or crackling. It would be interesting to hear how it sounds on the other players' ends though... But, at ?70, it is expensive.

Argh, had about 3 times where I've just closed this game down in anger today. Nobody cooperates! You look at the map, and everbody does their own thing, like that would happen!? It spoils the game because it becomes a 64 player deathmatch.

Yeah, I still haven't managed to get my online account working, but for BF2 to work how it's meant to, you need to be in a clan, as just any players will play like they're used to - free-for-all. It always makes it hard on those who want to play properly.

Another huge annoyance is that all the low latency servers are the "Wake Island 2007" map, which is shite.

BF2 servers need to be mighty powerful!
Is that Wake Island 2007 map an update of the origional BF 1942 map ported to BF2?

I would enforce users to join a squad, and after a minute of not doing so, I'd kick them (literally). Also, the ultimate sux0rz = Wake Island 2007 with no teamwork.

Yeah, that would be a good idea, would love to be able to do that!
Also, is the Wake Island map just a ported version of the BF1942 map? (which IIRC, I didn't like in the first place, might have got the wrong one though)

It's a ported version, almost exactly the same, but crapper, for some reason, possibly because it's heavily overplayed, similar to Aqua - Barbie Girl.

Hmm, probably because it doesn't have the origional vehicles and guns? The game changes alot with different kit.

Find a better server then, or try playing a different game for a time.
Or, go somewhere and win the game on your own! :D

Naa, it's becoming all too common that I find many servers cooperating less and less. It's not that I suck at the game, because I'm quite honestly back of the net, but the lack of teamwork spoils it horribly, and drags it right down to a 5/10 game.

If people would co-operate, it would make the game awesome, it's the whole point of the game! I bet all the commanders you have just use the artillery and stuff, without organising tactics. I'd love to see a proper game of BF2 (when I get mine working).
