Just a note - independent here is meant in a slightly different way to what you're used to thinking of indie, as in it means the development studio is not creatively tied by the publishers. So, as the article points out, that includes the like of Valve, Epic and Gearbox, along with all the high quality small studios.

If you ever found yourself wondering why Activision are all about money grabbing and are out of touch with gamers, here's your answer (another recent Kotick gem is saying they want to release a feature length SC2 cutscene for $20-30).
