R580 is going to be released either January 24th or very early February. But, G71 is going to be released about a month after -- this gives Nvidia enough time to kick ATI in the balls again.

Apparently, the R580 is beating the 7800GTX 512 by up to 50% in some applications. I stress 'some applications' now because ATI and Nvidia are working very differently when it comes to pixel shaders and stuff - basically Nvidia are probably going to have more powerful cards, but they will be consumed by the additional shader units that they've included. Whether they will be beneficial or not is yet to be seen :P

No-one will win. It's always "we got a better card" then the other company does the same a month later.

Oh, and ATI are just as cr*p - "The Ultimate Visual Experience^TM".

I've not heard that one. It's never been in a computer game, at least. Everything seems to be labelled up with the ghey Nvidia slo-gan. At least ATI can deliver, like they will next Monday.

Besides, you've never used an ATI graphics card.

I nearly got an ATI 9800XT but I waited too long and te next gen came so I got a 6800GT. I still think nVidia have slightly better framerates and stuff, but the gap isn't as profound as AMD vs Intel.

Compare 7800GTX 256MB against the X1800XT 256MB and you see roughly the same frames, give or take a few on each side.

Apparently, X1900XTX is beating 7800GTX 512 in every area right now (though there's nothing to be seen on the 'net, no figures/benchmarks etc.) But Nvidia's G71 will probably match/beat it, which is expected due to its later release date.

Turns out 7800GTX 512 is a huge embarrassment. Sure, Nvidia kicked ATI where it hurts, but ATI have generated much, *much* larger sales from their X1800XT 512 - they're available everywhere. 7800GTX 512 is still missing.

Also, there were 5 X1900XTX's available on aria.co.uk for preorder at about ?530 each, but they have all sold out now. And apparently, when it comes out in its retail form, it will be cheaper than 7800GTX 512. Yet to be seen! The X1900XTX is to be released on Monday 23rd January 2006.

Ther is very little variation, though it mostly depends on what the game is.

The X1900XT is also a lot newer than the 7800GTX, so it will beat the 7800GTX. Then nVidia will come along and beat that etc etc.

Yeah, seems they're having the same problem ATI was having with the X800(XT?), which couldn't be found as it required a rare type of memory. That's why they released the X850XT (well, the main reason).

X1900 is only 2 months newer than 7800GTX 512, though. 7800GTX 512 is slowly starting to become available again. Too late.

2 months is a long time in the compting world. In fact, I think the 7800GTX was released only a month after the X1800XT. Or something like that.

7 series was around before the X1800. The 512MB 7800GTX was available 3 days before the X1800XT 512, so Nvidia claimed a win... but it turns out they didn't sell as many of those cards as X1800XT 512, because you couldn't get hold of any!!

Heh, I thought the 7800GTX 512 was in response to the X1800XT 512, it wasn't announced until later, they must have just finished it quicker, which is probably why it ain't available.
