This happened in '07, I never knew anything about it...

Well this video showing the actual events has only just been released it seems.

But anyway in this whole conflict there's been a few controversial incidents, and I doubt we know everything horrific or dubious that has happened, and I doubt we will ever know about some of them.

From what I have read it seems pretty clear cut,

Insurgents attacking us forces.

Apache sent out to provide aerial cover.

A group of men, some armed (two with camera equipment) pretty close to the attack wandering about.

Group of men taken out.

Unarmed wounded survivor given two warning shots close to him, allowing him the chance to live while us forces inspect the location.

Van pulls up and attempts to set off with the survivor.

Taken out.

I don't see what is controversial. Yeah sure the guys are pissed off and make some silly statements, but the statements are typical of soldiers trying to brush off the reality of what they're doing.

Indeed. Lying rarely solves anything in situations like this where everything could be worsened if the truth came to light after lying... The best counter argument is probably that there were insurgents in the area, and those people looked like insurgents to the soldiers. If they had been insurgents and the soldiers had not fired, we'd most probably have a bunch of dead soldiers rather than a bunch of dead civilians.

It's simply an unfortunate tragedy.
